My mom is 58 years old, she had colon cancer 8 years ago, she was clear for 7 years and in the last year has had a tumor form in her pelvis and spots on her lungs, both biopsied and results showed the same as her colon cancer. Yesterday she was diagnosed by x-ray of having stomache cancer, no biopsy yet to see if it is the same cancer, but assuming it is what is her chances of survival? She has lost 75 pounds in a year, 25 or more in the last 2 weeks while hospitalized. She has needed a blood transfusion, and went into renal failure 2 weeks ago. (she only has one kidney) She cannot eat solid foods, she will vomit, she has no appetite and is nautious all the time even with anti nausea meds. She is in extreme pain some days. The other night they maxed her out on narcotics, couldnt give her anymore without it being unsafe.
also she has had a colostomy bag for the past year because of the pelvic tumor.
so how bad does this sound and what is her treatment options and chances?

She was diagnosed 10 mnths ago w/lung cancer. It was removed thr surgery. 6 months ago she had spots return on her other lung, colon, and spin. I do not know much on the subject of cancer. This sounds horrible to me, but I think it is a positive that treatment is shrinking the cancer. Is it possible for this to be treated and go away completely?

I have a friend who was diagnosed with stage III colon cancer a few months ago. From what I was told, she started out on chemo and it stopped working so they put her on radiation. She told me a couple of weeks ago that it spread to her lymph nodes behind the ear and her chin and they were putting her on chemo. Things don’t seem to be adding up when I do my research and she doesn’t want to seem to talk about it. Are there any professionals out there or someone who has been thru this who can shed some light? I thought stage III meant that it had ALREADY spread to the lymph nodes and at this stage, surgery should be done along with chemo treatments afterwards. Please advise and thank you.
Very concerned friend

Okay so my dad was diagnosed with Colon cancer a year and a half ago. He immedietly had 95% of his large intestine taken out. After the surgery we were all waiting for him to pass gas. This means that the stomach is working. It took two weeks for this to happen. His stomach almost didn’t start working and we almost had to put him on a feeding tube.
He has to go in for another surgery to get a colonoscopy bag because he had to stop radiation due to it was making his lining too thin. His wbc’s are too low for chemo.
He is almost refusing surgery because he refuses to live a life on a feeding tube. The doctor said that there is a 80 % chance his stomach won’t start up.My dad is only 50 and I need him around.
Is there other treatments besides radiation or chemo? What are the chances of his stomach starting back up after surgery..
How does a feeding tube work? can you drink?
I am running out of options and know very little about this.
Any information is helpful.

Hey guys, my oldest sister was diagnosed with colon cancer a week ago. She is only 26 and the doctor gave her 2-3 and a half years to live. My family is very overwhelmed right now, and I have a couple questions about the cancer if you guys could help. I myself am only 16 and am quite confused about the whole thing.
First of all, what is the treatment? Chemotherapy I assume, but is that it?
Second of all, is it “inherited”? I hear it is a dominant gene (my friend told me this, if somebody could clarify that would be great) but I also was told it was a chromosomal abnormality. Do my chances increase of getting it because its in my family?
Thank you so much in advance for your answers and prayers.

My friend was diagnosed with colon cancer about 6 weeks ago, he’s only 45. He had emergency surgery to remove the tumor and just started chemo this past Wednesday. When I saw him on wed. he was pretty ok, but he has progressively gotten more and more sick the last 5 days. He can hardly move without vomiting. His chemo is every other Wed-Fri, 3 continuous days through an iv pump. I don’t know how far advanced the cancer is (he won’t tell me) but he has to go through chemo for 6 months. After the chemo they gave him a 50/50 chance. Will he always be this sick through the chemo or will he get more used to it? Does the first treatment usually have such severe side effects, or does it vary? Any info on colon cancer, chemo, and chemo side effects would be greatly appreciated.

My father-in-law has been diagnosed with colon cancer and secondary liver cancer. He has just had surgery to remove the affected part of his colon, but the liver cancer is inoperable. He will undergo radiation and chemotherapy once he recovers from the surgery. The doctor has said, depending on how he responds to treatment, that he may have as little as 2 months or as long as 5 years to live.
My question is regarding my husband. He lost his mother to breast cancer 9 years ago and now he is going through it all over again with his father. I know he is hurting, but he’s very unwilling to talk about it. He and his father are very close. On top of it all, he is now becoming pessimistic about his own health, knowing that both of his parents will have died young.
I am doing the best I can to imagine how he is feeling, but I know I can’t really understand. Can anyone offer any advice on things I should say to him? I have tried optimism, but he doesn’t want to hear it.
